Title: The road to Sao Vicente

When the world’s beauty was allocated, Madeira grabbed a disproportionate share. The view from the road from Funchal to Sao Vicente is quite breathtaking, an unusual blend of grandiosity and the charm of the village and tamed surroundings; unspoilt acreage sitting alongside banana and Aloe Vera small holdings.
This piece required some considerable discipline from me, avoiding my tendency to portray just about everything as dark and moody and emphasising a brighter range of colour and the cuteness of detail that at times looks as if children were let loose with their crayons…the majesty of nature sitting quite happily alongside a more playful foreground. Not sure if I achieved this, but I had a lovely time in the process.
