Title: Memory of Esther
I inherited my late mother’s taste for glitz and gold; not unusual for people from humble beginnings transitioning to being middle class. Whenever I see this painting I think of her and the home she created when she finally made it to the competitive suburbs. I spent forever working on this one: so enjoying producing the shapes and textures, gold, silver and a nod to ‘mother of pearl’. This piece indulged my tendency towards repetition whilst balancing the need to create a cohesive work.
