Title: Abstract 4
I am always so pleased when people like my work and even more when they want to hang them in their own homes. For me though, the real pleasure is in the process of producing them. I love the doing and the observing of how each piece evolves; the almost endless decisions, the problem solving, the surprises and the deep satisfaction that results when I feel I’ve got it ‘right’.
This picture demonstrates my enjoyment of attending to detail. I wanted to do a piece that I could get ‘lost’ in; challenging me to know when it was enough; when to stop. I very much wanted to accentuate texture without being so fussy that it didn’t make a pleasing ‘whole’. In order to achieve this, I painted a bold and vivid structure first, then focused on colour more and finally superimposed a translucent version allowing the observer to peep through to the almost hidden detail.
