Title: Out of the shadows

I began this one the day after attending ‘Romeo and Juliet’ by Northern Ballet at Southampton…a gorgeous production with sensational lighting. I wanted to echo the mood of the final death scene in the Cathedral where the beauty of the young lovers shines through the darkness of the building and the story’s tragedy. As always with this type of work I’m trying to manage the contradiction of abstraction of the work with three dimensional shapes produced by light and shade against a flat decorative background.
